Mid Mark of the Season

Celebrating a win to mark the mid-way mark of the season

During the past weekend the Spruce Kings hit the halfway mark of their season and did so in fine fashion. Game number 28 of the 56 game regular season was played on Friday night against the visiting Cowichan Valley Capitals. In that game the Spruce Kings won a tight contest 3-1 with goals from Jeremiah Luedtke, Tanner Fjellstrom and an empty netter from Coltyn Hansen.

The win was a significant one because it put a difficult month behind the team and put them back on the winning side of the ledger to start the second half of the season. The win proved to be an important building block for team confidence that showed through with two more wins against a divisional opponent to start the season's second half.

The first half of the season finished with the Spruce Kings sitting in third place in the Mainland Division with 32 points (13-9-1-5). The first half was marked by a bit of a rollercoaster ride for the team. Before the month of October ended, the Spruce Kings earned a Top Twenty National Ranking from the CJHL only to see all of it unravel in a disappointing month of November.

Following the Friday night win I had a chance to sit down and talk to the Spruce Kings General Manager about the first half of the season. Mike Hawes was candid about where the team was and optimistic about where it needed to get to. The following audio segments make up the full two part radio interview that aired during the Spruce Kings broadcast on Saturday night.
